everyone is always acting like there is some crisis of human interaction with one another because everyone is overly sensitive to how strangers approach them and like. no actually its because nobody has any fucking manners. social etiquette has legitimately vanished. it makes interacting with strangers miserable because people don’t know how to fucking behave in public.

like it is rude to stare. it is rude to point. it is rude to have a loud phone conversation in a quiet place. it’s rude to listen to music or videos or whatever on your device with no headphones on a loud volume, or at any volume in an enclosed or quiet space. these are rude things to do. like i’m sorry while some etiquette is silly, an acceptable level of decorum is necessary to make existing in public bearable for everybody…….it is LITERALLY common courtesy

Also, do not fucking photograph or film people without their consent!

I think that we as a society should get more comfortable with the idea that sometimes our friends will be attracted to us and sometimes we will be attracted to our friends and nothing needs to come of that.

You don’t have to date. You don’t have to stop being friends. You can just keep hanging out. Self control and respect exists.

And sometimes you will date your friend and figure out that your dynamic worked better when you were friends. And then you can go back to being friends. It’s really quite simple. Mature and cool, even.

Even requited attraction doesn’t need to be acted upon. Two people can be mutually attracted to each other and still decide not to date or not to change the dynamic of their friendship. People who are dating can mutually decide it worked better as a friendship, even if the attraction persists.

Feelings are just feelings. Not all feelings need to be realized as actions. It’s very mature and cool to still treat people like people even after learning about their feelings, whatever they are.

i was ranting abt this w my wife last nite like. i think people have forgotten the whole “dont assume stuff about people based on their appearence” thing and that it also applies to people who are “straight-looking” “cis-looking” “normal-looking” etc. ultimately you dont know anything about how someone identifies or what their life is like unless they tell you, especially not at a glance. dont project your ideas onto strangers, its weird.

and like examine what the traits that mark people out as “straight and cis” to you are. is it a physical feature they have no control over? their voice? how old they are? or is the way they present? are they wearing a work uniform that leaves little room for self expression? or are they  just wearing casual clothes you wouldnt consider “gay-coded”? why do you get to choose what certain clothes mean? those clothes could mean something completely different to them. assume that you know nothing.

Shorebirds Semifinals: Sooty tern vs Little auk

Sooty tern

Little auk

A pair of well-dressed birdies!

Sooty terns reside throughout tropical oceans around the globe, breeding on islands near the equator. They lay a single egg in a shallow scrape of a nest on a rocky or coral island. They take fish from the surface of the water, typically targeting dense schools far out at sea. Sooty terns can spend a whopping 3 to 10 years on the wing at sea—they can’t even float, since they don’t have the appropriate oil in their feathers.

Little auks, or dovekies, live in the North Atlantic, breeding in the Arctic and wintering slightly further south. They forage underwater for crustaceans, primarily copepods, usually in the open ocean but closer to shore during nesting. They nest in large colonies on coastal cliffsides, laying a single egg in a rocky crevice.

FUCK fine little auk sorry sooty tern i love you. kissing you softly on your head
